Student Trustee Report for September 11, 2020 Meeting

  1. SJECCD Meeting - 9/8/2020

  2. CA Proposition 15

  3. Estimated $1.2 million in benefit to SJECCD if passed

  4. Prop 15 modifies Prop 13, an outdated property tax prop from 1978

  5. Restricted jumps in property tax increases

  6. Introduced because of large corporations taking advantage of low property taxes

  7. Businesses are being sold in a way that intentionally avoids taxes

  8. Prop 15 only increases property taxes for commercial and industrial business properties for businesses valued at over $3 million

  9. Reassessments will occur every 3 years if passed

  10. Estimated to create 20,000 new jobs

  11. Measure G-2010/Measure X Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC)

  12. CBOC used to ensure that bond funds are spent the way they were intended to be spent by taxpayers

  13. Need 1 student active in any “community college support group” at either SJCC or EVC

  14. Current CBOC meets quarterly, date/time and frequency of meetings up to committee
